Faculty of Dental Trainers: The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh

The Faculty of Dental Trainers (FDT) was established by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2016 and exists to promote the role of the dental trainer, recognise and reward achievement and excellence, enhance the quality of patient care and promote standards in training.

The FDT provides professional home for recognised dental trainers and is open to all members of the dental team. It welcomes applications from dental nurses involved in training and dental education. The college also provides a range of education and CPD activity relevant to DCPs, including:

  • An annual conference for DCPs offering participants the opportunity to update their knowledge and network with leading experts and colleagues from across the UK;
  • CPD opportunities for DCPs, including Core Topic Study Days; and
  • Education courses and examinations for DCPs, in areas such as Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy and Paediatrics

The FDT is led by an Executive Committee, with input from a wider Advisory Board that provides representation from a wide group of stakeholders. The FDT also works closely with the College's Faculty of Dental Surgery, ensuring commonality of purpose.
