What is Coffee Catch-up?

A virtual networking event for dental nurses and fellow dental care professionals for you to meet new colleagues and hear about the latest developments from the world of dentistry, the Association and our special guest speakers with free CPD for a members. The coffee catch-up has been created during the Covid-19 pandemic to offer members and non-member dental care professionals virtual way to the latest information from the world of dentistry, the opportunity for networking and connecting with with other dental nurses across the United Kingdom, and chat with our BADN President, the members of the BADN Executive Committee, and the staff. We also host special guest speakers who deliver valuable insights regarding a specific topic each month with the aim of helping attendees learn and expand their knowledge.

Emma Green is a Senior Dental Nurse within the North Wales Community Dental Service, currently working at HMP Berwyn. With over 31 years of experience in dental nursing across general dental practice, community dental services and secure prison settings, Emma has developed extensive experience in delivering dental care within a secure environment.

Emma is Special Care–trained, with a professional focus on secure dental services, infection prevention and control (IPC), nurse-led practice, workforce development and supporting dental nurse wellbeing within custodial settings.

As the Prison Dental Nurse Representative on the BADN Board of Representatives, Emma is passionate about advocacy, inclusion and recognition for prison dental nurses, and the ongoing development of the dental nursing profession.

"Dental Nursing Behind Bars: Delivering Healthcare, Hope and Rehabilitation Through Oral Health"

Synopsis

This session explores the unique contribution of prison dental nurses in addressing oral health inequalities and supporting health, wellbeing and rehabilitation within custodial settings. It will consider the oral health profile of people in custody, the operational realities of delivering dental services in a secure environment, and the importance of trauma-informed and person-centred care in prison dentistry. The session will also highlight the contribution of prison dental nurses within multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Objectives

  1. Examine the oral health profile of people in custody.
  2. Understand the operational realities of delivering dental services in a secure environment.
  3. Explore the role of trauma-informed and person-centred care in prison dentistry.
  4. Discuss the contribution of prison dental nurses to multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • To explore the unique contribution of prison dental nurses in addressing oral health inequalities and supporting health, wellbeing, and rehabilitation within custodial settings.

Development Outcomes

  • This presentation meets the GDC's development outcomes: A, B, C and D.

CPD information

Members attend free of charge and receive a CPD certificate (subject to meeting attendance criteria). Non-members - £5 participation fee is required to attend. This includes administration for issuing the CPD certificate.  CPD certificate requires attendee to be present on camera for the full presentation.

 

How much does it cost?

Our Coffee Catch-up sessions are FREE to attend. We welcome all dental nurses, BADN members and non-members, as well as other dental care professionals to join our sessions. Please note spaces are limited so be sure to book early.

What happens after I register?

Once registered a confirmation email will be sent to you within 24 hours. An Invitation Zoom Link along with any other relevant information will be sent to all attendees via email a day before the event. Please also check your spam/junk folder when looking out for any communications.
