Registration application fees from 1 January 2020

GDC is introducing application for first registrations from 1 January 2020. These new fees are being introduced to cover the costs associated with first registration applications, which are currently met by existing registered dental professionals.

The introduction of these fees will correct this situation and ensure alignment with our fee-setting policy. The removal of this cross-subsidy has also contributed to the recently announced reductions to the Annual Retention Fee for dental professionals.

The new registration application fees are made up of two parts:

  • a flat rate for processing costs, and
  • a variable rate for costs associated with assessing the application.

The registration application fees will be applied as follows:

Bank descriptor (precentages are the proportion of application from this band in 2018)
Processing fee
Assessment fee
Total fee
Registration as a UK-qualified dentist, dental care professionals (DCP) or additional DCP title(s) (65%)
Registration as dentist with an EEA qualification, has passed the Overseas Registration Exam (ORE), or a recognised overseas qualification (9%)
Registration (requiring individual assessment) as a DCP with a European Economic Area (EEA) qualification, or as overseas qualification (4%)
Registration as a dentist with a qualification requiring an individual assessment (2%)
Registration (requiring individual assessment) of additional DCP title(s) with an EEA qualification, or an overseas qualification (1%)
Registration as a temporary dentist (<1%)

Those in the process of applying for registration should also be aware of the following:
