Claire Kaur

Claire's dental nursing journey began in 2004. Shortly after, she gained her NVQ Level 3 in Dental Nursing. Her career started in general practice and then transferred to working alongside a Specialist Orthodontist in 2008. From there, Claire went on to further enhance her skills and knowledge and achieved further qualifications in:

  • Dental Radiography in 2009
  • Orthodontic Nursing in 2010
  • Impression Taking in 2011
  • Oral Health Education in 2018
  • Flouride Application and Plaque Scoring in 2019

In June 2019, Claire moved to work in the Orthodontic and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery departments at four hospital sites of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust where she works with consultants and the maxillofacial team specialising in complex orthodontic treatments, surgical procedures and Head and Neck cancers.

With 15 years' experience in dental nursing Clair was recently awarded a BADN Fellowship in July 2019. She is an active member of the dental and orthodontic nursing community, is a member of the Orthodontic National Group and regularly attends the British Orthodontic Conference and BADN National Dental Nursing Conference.

At present, Claire's studying Level 3 Award in Education and Training and is a lead tutor for the Minor Oral Surgery (Dental Nursing) course with Dental Education Learning and Training Academy.


Rhian Slaymaker RDN RAD Dip

Rhian dental nursing journey started as a trainee nurse in 2002 and gaining her NEBDN qualifications in 2004. In 2007, Rhian's passiong for patient care took her to Uganda where she volunteers with a team of dental professionals to deliver emergency dental care and oral health instruction to thousands of patients from local communities. Her commitment to her professional development has seen Rhian extend her skills and knowledge by gaining qualifications in Dental Radiography in 2010, Oral Health Education in 2012 and an additional CBCT (Cone Beam Computerised Tomography) qualification in 2018. Rhian emjoys furthering her dental knowledge by attending and organising regular dental courses.

Rhian has been a BADN member for five years and is passionate about the association and dental nurses, especially nurses being utilised in practice with additional skills.

Rhian is part of the dental team with Mydentist part of IDH Group in Mid Wales as a Dental Nurse and Treatment Co-ordinator. As well as working in practice part of her role is visiting other practices in the estate across the UK helping team succeed in delivering a high standard patient journey and training on digital work flow and the role of the treatment co-ordinator.

Rhian passion for dentistry and patient care, along with dedication to advance her career resulted in being awarded 'Most invaluable Team Member' for the Midlands region in the Private Dentistry Awards 2019.


Debra Worthington

Debra has been a dental nurse for 40 years; working in General Dental Practice, Community Dental Service and Secondary Care. She is the Maxillofacial Unity Manager at Salford Royal Hospital; a busy unit comprising of maxillofacial surgery, oral surgery and orthodontics.

Debra is accountable for the overall clinical and operational day to day delivery of clinical standards of care and management of the dental care professional workforce; she endeavours to deliver a high-quality patient centred service which meets patient's needs.

She is actively involved in clinical governance, risk management, and is the Radiation Protection Supervisor. Debra has recently gained a teaching qualification and successfully completed the NHS Senior Leadership Programme.

Debra has been a member of the Orthodontic National Group since its indeption in 1994 and has been a committee member for 19 years. She served as chairman of the group - for 9 years and is their current president.

She works tirelessly at both a locacl and national level representing orthodontic nurses and therapists at Stakeholder meetings which includes the GDC, the BDA and the RCS (Edin).
